Barnes or Hammers I wouldn't venture to far and shot placement is key for the bullets to effectively open up as many have stated. Behind the shoulder maybe a long day trackin.
Begers - the meat eaters hate them, but they are sure accurate and kill allot of stuff. MIght not be much blood trail...
I have a very lightly used 7mm model 70 featherweight, scope rings are not included putting them on another rifle. Rifle ships to you for $1,200. Great looking red pad model in the cool 7mm wsm. I'm the second owner (to my knowledge) and I put about a box myself down the tube, the rifle came to...
In the same boat I shoot 100 grain scirocco's out of my 257's mainly i have a couple ruger 1's and several mark v's - haven't had one run yet from white tail, fallow and axis deer plus many hogs. My wife shoots 115 partitions in her 25-06 and I have some 110 accubonds for 257 roberts. Last 25...
257 with 30" barrel and twist to accurately shoot the heavy EOL's would be pretty cool IMO - but 257 wby is my all time fav so i'm bias, If you choose to go that route keep us posted on the status so i can live through your wallet and not do it myself! :)
338-06 is a contender in my book, I purchased one in mark V LW for my wife to hunt plains game type animals. 185 TTSX are deadly, 210 partitions shoot very well also - have no kills on them but no doubt in my mind what they will do.
No personal experience with the whelen,
If i were shopping...
I shoot fairly uncommon calibers intentionally - at least uncommon in my immediate world. My favorites would be:
224wby - 240wby-257wby
prob most uncommon and cool, 224wby and 218bee - 22 hornet is a fun one, but it's not that uncommon around here.
Great looking German,
they come in 24 - 26" barrels, 26" is more valuable all things considered equal because there were fewer made. So the collectors grab the 26's up - shooting hard to find something easier to handle than a 24" barrel varmintmaster, points and shoots easy even off hand shots.
We constantly send Adam messages on the weatherby nation about making a VM in the sexy sheridan deluxe model they kick out in wy! I can't imagine the waiting list for such a limited run if it were to happen, but i'd dang sure try and get one. Several 224's and even more 22-250, some of my...
Don’t shoot it, you’ll like it and yes ammo and components are higher than a giraffes ***!
Search and be patient is all I can add. I have several and made deals over the years on ammo and components. Maybe weatherby will make more runs but it’s still high! Congrats is it a jap/german? 24/26...
I have several - 280 rem, 7mm rem, 7mm wby and 7stw so this is coming from a voice of "reason"!
If you like the AI, do it - it's a great all around useful cartridge and it will now most likely last your lifetime with two options to use now. You can have one that goes heavy and one that goes LW...
lol - ya i can see that, how fast would a 224-378 be, barrel life 25 rounds??? ;)
if it's the first gun i grab it would be a 257 ruger 1, lipseys model is my trusty goto here in central texas for most medium game put a new trigger on it and it's an absolute tack driver with 100 grain...
My favorites to collect will forever be mark v's (specifically southpaw versions for me but collect both R and L hand for me and the boys). While I have almost all calibers from 224-378 my forever favorite is the 257. Ruger 1's will be my closest in line for runner up.
Model 70 featherweight...
