I have two fast twist AR's one has a 7 twist barrel and the other has an 8 twist. An 8 twist barrel will stabilize anything that can be loaded to mag length.
A good shooting rifle that's dirt cheap to shoot is hard to beat. When I finally shot out the factory barrel on my 223 Howa 1500 varmint, I replaced the barrel with a 7.7 twist 26 inch McGowen. MAN DOES THIS THING HAMMER. My 308 Howa 1500 which also wears a McGowen barrel, used to be my...
Since the standard practice is to true your chronograph results in a ballistic app anyway, any difference between the two doesn't mean that much. With that being said, the Garmin is at the top of the heap for me.
I had to think outside my preference box since my preferred powders, 8208XBR, Power Pro Varmint, and 2000R have become unobtanium.
I have discovered that Leverevolution works well with 308W. It also works very well with 223 when you're using 75 or heavier grain bullets. I've only been lucky...
My 30 Cal bolt gun is a 308. Its on its second barrel. The first one (factory) lasted 8000 rounds before it would no longer put 5 shots into a sub moa group. I'm expecting my current (McGowan) barrel to last at least that long if not longer. Add that I live east of the Mississippi river. If...
I hunt east of the Mississippi. If I can see the deer, it's not that far away. With that said, If I ever have the opportunity to hunt some of the places y'all do, out to the limits of my comfort zone, "situation dictates". I can score a first round hit in good conditions on a 2MOA sized round...
I don't need a 223 trainer rifle. With that said, I hunt and shoot in eastern NC. A 223 bolt gun to go along with my 308 makes a lot of sense for me. The deer here are small enough and the shots are close enough that something like the 62 grain gold dot at 3k fps makes works well in the woods...
I use a Shadowtech O311G with a pig saddle(less expensive version of the hog saddle) mounted on a Sunwayfoto FB-52G ball head. This setup is heavy, but it didn't bust the budget. With that said, its rock solid.
