Timney used to make an adjustable trigger for them, I wish I had bought more of them 40 years ago. The one Arisaka I still have in 25 Souper has been modified with a side safety similar to model 700 rem. It blocks the trigger when engaged, while still having the rotating safety on the back of...
The biggest worry would be if it was really an Arisaka trainer. As it is already a 6.5/257 and the barrel is worn out, it must have been shot with some reasonable power loads already.
The only concern I would have is the amount of work and the cost to do this conversion.
I would guess that at least 100,000 Arisaka's have been converted to 6.5/257 over the years.
I have probably had at least 10 of them.
I killed my first buck with one when I was 10 years old.
The real problem here is that the cost of rebarreling this rifle will far surpass the value of it.
I have...
Well, I have read through 8 pages of this, so I guess it's time to add to the list.
My favorite oddball calibers:
400 Corbon
6.5/257
250 Souper
257 Roberts
30 Gibbs
338/06
35 Whelen, any variant, Ackley or Brown.
My last 98 Mauser build a couple years ago was a 30 Gibbs, but only because I already have a pre 64 model 70 that has been bored to 338/06. I am loading 186 grain hammer hunters to just under 3000 fps. I have owned at least 5 different 338 win mags and have sold them all and don't fill under...
I have always thought the Bell and Carlson stocks were a great value.
My Weatherby vanguard came with their stock and has not been bedded, shoots fine.
I have their stocks on a model 70 and on a Mauser sporter. Both have been on those rifles for 30 years. Both have been bedded.
The stock on the...
First, I am not much of a varmint hunter.
Unless you count the racoons I shoot around the house with a 22LR as varmints. Which they are.
But I am a fan of the 25 caliber rifles.
Currently I think I have 4 -25 caliber rifles.
I have Remington model 25 in 25-20 that has killed two buck deer that I...
It reminds me of my Oregon ram, shot 30 some years ago with a custom 98 FN Mauser I have. Also in 30-06, also with Sierrea 165 SBT, loaded with 50 grains of IMR 4064. Shot on the upper bank of the Snake River across from Idaho.
Where in Idaho did you get your ram?
Back in the 80's I would buy $50 Mausers with very ugly barrels, fill them with oven cleaner and leave them overnight.
The lye in the oven cleaner worked better than anything I have used before or since.
But you need to make sure to clean out the oven cleaner to prevent rust.
Some of those guns...
I am afraid to open the safe and look.
Of the top of my head, I have an unfired Weatherby Vanguard NRA in 300 Weatherby, and a commercial 1919 manufacture Colt 1911 that I have had a couple years that I have not fired. But I am sure there are others.
I am a fam of the 6mmRem but years ago I started gifting grandkids deer rifles in 243 win.
My model 700 6mmrem shot teeny tiny groups but finally sold it to match the 243 chambering rifles I had given them.
I now have a Styer model L in 243 that will almost match the above mentioned 6mm.
I have...
Some 40 years ago I put together a 30-06 on a FN 98 action.
At the time I was out of 4350 and 4831, my go to powders.
I had some IMR4064 and loaded up some with 50 grains of 4064 pushing a 165 gr Sierra hp at around 2900 fps.
From the get-go it shot .75 to 1" groups with that load.
While it...
I had a 25/284 on a Mauser 98 action to allow me to utilize the added case capacity.
I still have a 25 Souper AKA 25/308.
I also have a 257 Roberts and a 25/06.
I sold my 25/284 as it really just matched a 25/06 and brass is so much easier to get for a 25/06.
I also prefer a 257 Roberts over the...
