    Hog Stimulus

Like I said, nobody pays to help with a problem. They pay for all the services provided and the experience - just like with any other guided hunt.

    Hog Stimulus

Nobody pays the outfitter to help with a problem. They pay the outfitter for the his/her time in getting them on their quarry, trespass access, having a great time hunting, etc. Hogs are a problem, but then again so too are deer, elk, mountain lion, bears, wolves, prairie dogs, etc. It just...

4 of 5 Bachelor Boars Down

This was a fun hunt. I had a group of 5 boars show up that apparently had not been hunted previously because they didn't seem to know what to do when the shooting started. One had to wait for over 2 minutes for me to shoot it, LOL.

    Fattest Hog To Date

I have seen a couple of sows that might be comparable to that, but it has been since before the droughts. They were not barren. One was very pregnant.

    Update on the Super Pigs

Gestation is about 115 days and so could have 3 litters a year based on the math, but have more like 3 litters every 2 years, on average.

    Acceptable Accuracy For Hog Hunting

It is of our own creation, but not because of bringing in hogs for hunting. Feral hogs have been around for a very long time. As long as there have been hogs in Texas, they have been free-ranged, though that is now largely out of favor. In fact, free ranging was common world wide. My father...

    Update on the Super Pigs

Hunting is effective if you have the right circumstances and and effective hunter. For example on primarily open lands, low crops, etc., 3 nights a week, hunting can work very well. Where hunting fails is in high crops and heavily forested areas where the hogs are harder to spot in the first...

    Acceptable Accuracy For Hog Hunting

I don't know how much of this was in jest, but I had something like this happen at my place with a guy that I allowed to deer hunt my land. Long story short, he didn't get a deer and when I was next on property, I found one of my LARGE oaks next to my gun range had a target on it and 20-30...

    Acceptable Accuracy For Hog Hunting

That looks to be a hunter with paper plate accuracy. Paper plates are 9" across as is the kill zone of a deer (approximately), so if your shots are on the paper plate, you hit the kill zone, hence you are zeroed good enough. Full sized hogs have a similar size kill zone, but not smaller hogs...

    Update on the Super Pigs

Deer mostly eat stuff and rub on some trees and that is their damage. Hogs eat grown plants. Hogs eat sprouts. Hog eat seeds. Hogs will root up the ground for freshly planted seeds. Hogs will root up the ground for insect. Hogs raid ground nests for eggs. Rooting promotes erosion. Hogs...

Whole herd of wild hogs charge two hunters!

You are right. A sow may have two litters a year. In fact, it is possible for them to have THREE litters per year. According to the good folks at Texas A&M, it is more like 3 litters every two years most of the time. Can they have 12 in a litter? Sure, but the norm is 6-8. The most I have...
