The 5-25 atacr is a great PD and general varmint scope. I’ve used mine out to a mile on half MOA targets and can still see them clearly for accurate shots… but the further they are the more I still miss 😁
I use Lathrop and Sons boots. After 38 years guiding western Colorado elk hunters and 51 years hunting them myself these are the best boots I've found. I also use high end insoles or custom insoles to perfect the fit.
I have been solo backpacking for 50 years. At 65 I still don’t hesitate. Just gotta be safe, conservative decision making, bring the right equipment, and I will admit I’ve started carrying my cell phone for 911 emergency.
I have a couple lightweights coming at 8 lbs for a 22 creedmore and 8.5 for a 300 WSM. Both scoped and a muzzle brake on the 300. I’ve had a number of lighter guns but find the 8 lb range and up easier for me to maintain accuracy.

My 300 Norma Improved shoots 245 EOL’s at 3057 fps accurately, but your 338 AM is on a whole different level! It would be the logical next step up if the Norma proves not to be an adequate long range elk rifle 😉
